ITM Power operates from the world’s largest electrolyser factory in Sheffield with a capacity of 1GW (1,000MW) per annum. ITM Power received an order for the world’s largest PEM electrolyser of 24MW from Linde in January 2021. Other customers and partners include, Ørsted, Phillips 66, Siemens Gamesa, Scottish Power, Cadent, Sumitomo, Northern Gas Networks, Gasunie, RWE, Engie, GNVert, National Express, Toyota, Hyundai and Anglo American among others.

ITM Power role

ITM will lead the development and testing of the marinised offshore electrolysis module in the OYSTER project. This will involve development of marinised system to house the electrolyser, integration of the electrolyser with the desalination unit and design of the power electronics to integrate with the DC output from a wind turbine. Throughout these research and development activities ITM will work closely alongside Ørsted and SGRE to ensure the electrolysis module is fit for an offshore environment and integration into a wind turbine.

ITM will also be heavily involved in the analysis of the results from the shoreside trial and define the set of benchmark KPIs, which will compare the offshore electrolyser with a land based system. ITM will engage with potential hydrogen end-users to support the next stage of the OYSTER project.
